Lakeside Photo inspo

I’ve always loved those American films that feature a beautiful house by the lake. Films like, On Golden Pond, What about Bob, The Lake House and Cape Fear. I was recently reminded of my fantasy of experiencing a break by the lake and log cabin living last week, because my 9 to 5 took me to the lake region of New Hampshire USA, for a conference.

But it wasn’t until I came back that I had an epiphany about my aesthetic values when doing the final tweaks of the photographs.

I realised I favour a dynamic photo adjustment that shows a wide range of tonal values in my work.

The human eye picks up more tonal values than what the camera does. A wider tonal range is certainly in my plans for my next series of paintings. Below are more pics of the lake showing my wide tonal range preference in photography. I like it because it brings out the colours and the beauty more. It makes the real nicer looking, perhaps slightly more fantastical as these images were taken on a dull day after the snow and blizzard happened and while the sludgy snow was melting. They told me stories of their adversity such as having no power and having to switch the generator on. But the vibrant images don’t show that.
